The Desperate Need For Chiropractic Blogs on the Internet
May 12, 2009
We live in the Information Age. Anything and everything we want to know is merely a click away.
No longer do we have to go to a library to search their database, or flip through hundreds of pages in numerous books to find what we want.
With that being said, why is it that only about 1% of chiropractors have a blog? With all the information and knowledge we possess about health and wellness, how is it that Web MD is right at the top of so many search engine findings?
Depending on who you talk to, only about 5-7% of the United States population sees a chiropractor. If approximately 350 million people live in this country, that comes out to about 17.5-24.5 million people currently seeing a chiropractor, and I think that is being generous.
The number of chiropractors in this country is approximately 65,000-70,000. With only about 1% of chiropractors having a blog, that means only about 6,500-7,000 DCs have an internet presence.
The way I see it, every chiropractor should have an online presence. Here’s why: Our profession has become a muddled pool of confusion.
Nobody knows what chiropractors do. Are they back pain doctors? Headache doctors? Do they do physical therapy? What’s the difference between a chiropractor and a physical therapist? The list goes on and on.
If each chiropractor started up a blog, he or she could tell the chiropractic story online. He or she could get that much needed information out into the web.
People are searching for answers. Obesity rates are sky high in this country, with close to two-thirds of Americans being considered morbidly obese. Close to three-fourths of Americans take at least one prescription drug a day. Cancer rates are soaring. Diabetes is becoming a common occurence. Heart disease and high blood pressure seem to be everywhere.
Chiropractic is the gatekeeper to true health and wellness. It is high time people started learning this. Addressing the cause i.e. vertebral subluxation, bad diet, sedentary lifestyle, and bad sleeping habits are what is needed.
This country needs less of the symptoms-based approach. It doesn’t work. If it did, we would be the healthiest country in the world. In actuality, we are one of the unhealthiest industrialized countries in the world, and we consume most of the world’s drugs.
Creating a blog and learning how to market it properly can go a long way into changing a lot of these mindsets.
We, as chiropractors and chiropractic students, have spent a lot of time, energy, and money into learning our craft. But it is not enough. The internet is the perfect forum for our information. Newspapers and news media are owned by the pharmaceutical companies. The internet is not. Anyone can post anything they want.
Get out and get create that online presence. Millions and millions of sick, suffering people need what you know.
